I don't add cards lightly. This one is different. Here's what happened in 23 days — and what it means for yours.
I got the Bilt Palladium Card on May 22nd. It is now 23 days later. In that time: 90,017 points earned, $706 in rewards currency sitting in my wallet, Gold Status already achieved, the welcome bonus already secured, and the annual fee already cleared in value. No manufactured spend. No tricks. A mortgage payment and normal everyday spending.
This lesson is what I wish I had before I applied — the full picture of how the system works, who each card is for, and what to check before you make a move.
My Real Account · 23 Days In
This is not a projection. This is a screenshot from my wallet as of June 14, 2026. Nearly 4× the annual fee in value unlocked in the first month — on a mortgage payment and normal everyday spending.
~$1,980 at 2.2¢/pt (TPG benchmark)
$300 welcome + $200 annual + 4% earnings
Already achieved after welcome spend
Point Accelerator active on all spend
+ $300 Bilt Cash on approval
Already cleared in value — month one
Understanding the System
Before comparing the two cards, you need to understand Bilt Cash — because most people misread it and leave real value sitting unused.
Bilt Cash is not points. It does not transfer to airlines or hotels. It lives inside the Bilt app and spends inside the Bilt ecosystem. Think of it as a store credit. But here is the part that matters: used strategically, it multiplies your points.
4% back on everyday spending (on top of your points — both currencies earn simultaneously), plus a $300 welcome deposit on Palladium approval, $200 every January 1st as an annual benefit, and $50 for every 25,000 Bilt Points earned toward status.
Spend $200 Bilt Cash to boost your catch-all earn rate from 2X to 3X — on everything — for up to 5,000 points. Available up to 5 times per year for a maximum of 25,000 bonus points annually.
The system self-funds: every $5,000 of boosted spend at 4% earns back the $200 Bilt Cash needed for the next activation. My account is running 3X right now on all spend.
On the 1st of every month, Bilt runs a transfer bonus to a major airline or hotel partner. Your status tier determines your bonus rate. Bilt Cash lets you buy up one tier — just for that day.
As a Gold member at a 75% bonus, spending $150 Bilt Cash can get you the Platinum rate — up to 100% or more. On 100,000 points, that difference is 25,000 free miles for $150 that would otherwise expire December 31st.
Bilt Cash expires December 31st. Up to $100 rolls over. Use it on the Point Accelerator or a Rent Day bonus upgrade — those are the two moves that actually matter. Everything else is a secondary use.
Monthly Event
Rent Day is Bilt's monthly event — and it is where your accumulated points and Bilt Cash work together for the highest possible value.
Double points on purchases. All card spend earns 2X the normal rate — dining, travel, and everyday purchases — up to a monthly cap.
Transfer bonus to a partner program. Every month, Bilt announces a bonus when you transfer points to a specific airline or hotel. Bonuses range from 25% to 125%+ depending on your status tier.
Bilt Cash upgrades your bonus tier. Not at the top status level? Spend Bilt Cash to buy up — turning a good bonus into a great one for that day only.
Free fitness classes + exclusive dining. SoulCycle, Barry's, and local Bilt partner events — free for members on the 1st.
The Feature Nobody Talks About
Load any card into your Bilt wallet — your Chase card, your Amex, whatever you're already carrying. When you spend at any of Bilt's 50,000+ Neighborhood partner merchants with those cards, you earn Bilt points on top of whatever your primary card already earns.
No code. No portal. No decision at checkout. It runs in the background. You are not choosing between cards — you are stacking them.

Two Cards · Two Profiles
The Blue Card is Bilt's no-fee entry point and is not part of this comparison. The two cards worth your attention are the Obsidian and the Palladium. They are built for different people.
The Strategy Multiplier
Bilt points transfer 1:1 to Hyatt, United, Air France, Alaska Airlines, and other major partners. TPG values them at 2.2¢ — higher than Amex MR (2.0¢) and Chase UR (2.0¢). But 2.2¢ is the floor, not the ceiling.
The card is the tool. The strategy determines the outcome. Modules 3, 4, and 5 cover exactly how to get to the 3¢–4¢+ tier — transfer partners, award space, and the redemptions that make the math feel impossible.
Before You Move
This is not a card to get impulsively. Here is what to think through before applying.
Those two cards compete for the same role in your wallet. Most people should choose one. Book a strategy session before deciding. The right answer depends on your full stack.
$400 in hotel credits means two Bilt Travel Portal bookings per year. If you won't do that, your effective fee is higher than $495.
Choose based on your actual spend patterns — not which name sounds more impressive. Obsidian wins on category earning; Palladium wins on benefits and simplicity.
Rent or mortgage — either way, Bilt is the only program that earns points on it with no transaction fee. That's the baseline conversation.
Whether this is your first Bilt card or you're deciding between the Obsidian and Palladium, the right answer depends on your full wallet. Let's figure it out together.
